The Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Mr Didier Dogley handed over SSTL certificates to representatives of two Hilton hotels in a short ceremony held at the ministry’s headquarters, at Botanical House, Mont Fleuri on Wednesday 16th January 2019.

Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa and Double Tree by Hilton Allamanda Resort both located on Mahe were first certified in 2016.  On the expiry of their certification which was valid for 2 years these two hotels have gone through a re assessment where they have both scored over 10% more points than they scored 2 years ago.

During the two years, both hotels have intensified their efforts to reduce their carbon footprints. This includes installing solar lights across the whole property, motion sensor lighting, reconditioning of the Sewage Treatment Plant for more efficiency among others.  Both properties have also contributed to environment conservation through the establishment of coral nurseries in partnership with the Marine Conservation Society of Seychelles to help in coral reef restoration.

The tourism department has renewed the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL) for three hotels and awarded the Seychelles eco-label to a new accommodation entity.

Representatives of Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa, Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino, Constance Ephelia Resort and Hotel L'Archipel received their SSTL certificates from  the Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Didier Dogley, in a short ceremony held at the ministry’s headquarters at Botanical House, Mont Fleuri.

This was in the presence of the tourism department’s principal secretary, Anne Lafortune, and director of product development, Sinha Levkovic.

The Tourism Department has awarded the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL) to another two hotel establishments.=

Representatives of Avani Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa and The H Resort Vallon Beach, received their SSTL certificates from the hands of the Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Didier Dogley.

This was during a short ceremony held at the ministry’s headquarters, at Botanical House, Mont Fleuri.

This was in the presence of the Tourism Department’s Principal Secretary, Anne Lafortune, and Director of Product Development, Sinha Levkovic.

Patrons of the CaranaBeach Hotel on Mahé in the Seychelles are being asked to safeguard the ocean and its inhabitants, each and every time they order a drink.

And they’ll do so by refusing to drink from a straw. Or at the very least, by enjoying the use of a biodegradable version supplied by the hotel.

CaranaBeach launched a “Refuse the Straw” initiative to commemorate its 2nd anniversary on the 21st April, with artwork positioned around its bar and restaurant areas promoting the concept that to refuse a straw could mean saving the life of a sea turtle or other marine animals, according to CaranaBeach PR, Branding and Communication Manager Nicole Saint Ange.

The Acajou Beach Resort has become the latest tourism establishment to be awarded the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL), after it was successfully assessed and certified as a resort that is integrating sustainability practices in its business operation.

The Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Maurice Loustau-Lalanne presented the Chairman of Acajou Beach Resort, Hugh Payet with the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label certificate on Tuesday 11th July. The ceremony was attended by the Principal Secretary for Tourism, Anne Lafortune and the Tourism Department’s Director for Product development, Sinha Levkovic.

The Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL) which is an initiative of the Government of Seychelles and is being implemented by its Ministry responsible for tourism has obtained Recognition Status with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). This is a great step forward for the SSTL which in 2015 also partnered with the Fair Trade Tourism of Africa in its endeavour to enhance local and international credibility and visibility for this label.

Hilton Labriz Resort and Spa of Silhouette Island and the Anse Forbans Chalets on the Main island of Mahe have been added on the list of tourism establishments that are Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL) certified.

A certificate presentation ceremony was held this week at the ESPACE Building offices of the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange.

Present at the ceremony were the principal secretary for tourism Anne Lafortune, cluster director of business development for the Hilton Seychelles Hotels Smital Shah-Boultwood and Brigitte Haworth from the Anse Forbans Chalets.

Fair Trade Tourism's expansion into Africa has been given a boost through its signing of a Mutual Recognition Agreement with Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL). The agreement, signed this week, enables six of the Indian Ocean island nation’s leading hotels to be marketed under the Fair Trade Holiday brand. The Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label is moving forward!

Further to our signing of the MOU with Fair Trade Tourism in July of this year, we are pleased to announce the next step towards international recognition for our label.

Heliconia Grove, a locally owned self-catering establishment at Cote d’Or on Praslin Island has been certified as a Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL) product.

The Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label certificate is a sustainable tourism management and certification programme designed specifically for use in Seychelles. It aims to inspire more efficient and sustainable ways of doing business.
