Seychelles sustainable tourism label 

 

Raffles Seychelles has achieved the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL) certification.

Minister Didier Dogley, the Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, presented the SSTL certificate to Mrs. Salwa Razzouk, Resort Manager of the hotel on Tuesday 14th May 2019. Present at the short ceremony held at the ministry’s headquarters at Botanical House, Mont Fleuri were also Mrs. Anne Lafortune, the Principal Secretary for Tourism and Ms. Janice Bristol, Senior Officer in the Product Development at the Tourism Department.

The Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label which is applicable to hotels of all sizes, is a voluntary certification scheme awarded to hotels in recognition for their sustainability efforts. The SSTL is internationally recognized and holds the Recognition Status with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

During the ceremony, Minister Dogley congratulated Raffles Seychelles for its achievement in obtaining the certification and stressed on the importance of the Seychelles tourism industry to be one which operates on the principles of responsible tourism in view of its importance to the Seychelles economy. He also expressed his vision to have more hotels follow in Raffles Seychelles and the other SSTL certified hotel’s footsteps.

Mrs. Razzouk commented that the hotel is pleased to form part of the SSTL and commended the Department for launching such an initiative. She also reassured the Minister of the hotel’s commitment do its part to further the sustainability of the industry and destination.

Raffles is the 19th hotel to be awarded the SSTL certification and the first for this year. The SSTL team is working with other hotels and more are expected to be certified this year.

The SSTL is a sustainable tourism management and certification programme designed specifically for use in Seychelles. It is voluntary, user-friendly, and designed to inspire more efficient and sustainable ways of doing business.
